We had a project meeting in a picturesque region of Czech Republic. We visited our partner school, Zakladni Skola, Litovel, famous for its fabulous beer and the nature. Fortunately, the weather mostly let us implement all the activities prepared by our Czech partners throughout the meeting. </div>

The botel ( boat hotel ) was not very luxurious but we enjoyed there very much. We walked two sides of Vltava river, we breathe the mystical atmosphere of the city. we had two half days to see the attractions. We had a chance to see almost all the attractions. After all, we took a train to Litovel. Our Czech friends welcomed us in the station. Apartmany Pekin has very friendly environment and cleanliness. In addition, the owners of the apartment is so generous and helpful. We felt very peaceful and safe by the great assistance and interest of our landlord. The school, the teachers and the students were all well-organized and the teacher shared all the work equally. Especially Mrs Petra was the leader who did a lot, during the meeting. The Mistress of the host school was also helpful. There were lots of project-related activities but the olympic with recycling materials and planting tree parts were the best of all. We had a trip to Olomouc and the Castle. We enjoyed the Renewable Energy House, too. Czech Republic was more than I expected. </div>

That is, I am on two European school projects together. This one is about environmental and ecologic issues and works internationally. This project is a very comprehensive and completely different project from the other one. I am doing my best to manage these two valuable works by the help of my colleagues. We are now five partners from four different countries; one from Germany, one from Czech Republic, two from England and our school. We have local activities besides international ones. We also have working trips to our European partners. We visited the German partners in Ulm in December, 2013 at first stage. The second visit was to Czech Partners in Litovel in May, 2014. We have improved and managed most of our goals. I will share our activities for this project hereinafter.</div>

<span style="font-size: large;">We have visited our Estonian partner in Kadrina, Rakvere in Estonia. It was one of my dreams to see this country because Ms. Eve Vunk from Estonia told me a lot of exciting things about this beautiful country. We went there 4 teachers and 6 students as Turkish Representatives. The students stayed at their peers' houses and we as teachers stayed in a guest house. It was not very attractive but normal for a small town like Kadrina. Especially the people of Kadrina were very friendly and helpful. Mr. Eve Vunk did the best welcoming us with the activities full of music. We cooked ourselves and enjoyed the time with our English, Italian and Polish partners. I mostly like the purity of the nature of the country. We had great time during the trips to Baltic Sea and Tallinn. We have very much enjoyed the atmosphere of Rakvere town. However I can tell you that the locals of Kadrina were unforgettable. Thanks to Eve who created a warm atmosphere for us in her town. I love Estonia.</span></div>

We celebrated 23rd April Children's Day at our School, Hanım Ömer Çağıran Primary School in Antalya. We had some guests from Cadencia Dance Club from Kadrina, Estonia where we have our Estonian Comenius Partner School, too. We have been honored by the participation of our Estonian friends in our celebration program. They performed an exciting Estonian Folkdance and all our students so much enjoyed it. They met each other and made contacts aiming the future friendship. It was a fruitful activity for strenghtening our partnership. Moreover it was such an efficacious meeting that our students and Estonians had a chance to learn something about each other's culture before the Comenius Meeting in Estonia in May. </div>

Before departing for Poland we had chosen the best logo in our school prepared by our students in order to use for all the project works.Actually the logo chosen in Turkey locates several objectives from the Project theme which is mainly about internet around the world and its effectiveness on the families. It mostly focusses on the safe internet usage and by using a mouse tool, the logo shows the importance of the clicks about the World and people living on it. That's the circle represents the planet earth. In my opinion the epicenter point of the logo is the hands which works as a security guard. The hands mean the project itself.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In Poland, all the partner schools pbrought their own logos and after a competition, we have chosen the Polish School's logo as a champion. I will share the winner logo later when I receive it from Poland. WE as the partners will use that Polish logo in all our project activities and stationary papers.</div>

We are going to apply the same questionaries at the end of scheduled year (2015 June) in order to see how much we manage. We have prepared a statistics and a report so that we will be able to share our results with our partner schools during our trip to Poland at the end of October. To give a brief information about the results, I can say that the students know little about Europe although they are all familiar with internet technology. This shows that the situation is not that clean-cut. They use internet improperly and they waste their time in front of a virtual World. They are not aware of the real benefits of internet since they are mostly interested in spontaneous chattings and nonsense and harmful online games. Just few use internet as a tool to improve their knowledge and enlarge their Culture of anything valuable they are interested in. </div>

My Digital Friends (MDF) is a key to succeed online selectivity, responsibility and security among the students,teachers and community.The main topic of this project is internet. This is because we
use internet on a daily basis-instant messaging, posting & watching
videos, gaming and networking. That’s we are actually digital citizens.
The project “My Digital Friends (MDF)” is a key to supply safe,
appropriate and healthy usage of internet both at school and at home.
Defined project activities and outcomes will lead pupils to become
conscious European citizens having responsible behavour with regard to
internet use. By implementing the project, we aim to get rid of the
harmful effects of internet and highlight the beneficial aspects of
its. We will mainly focus on improving internet skills by concentrating
on responsibility, selectivity and safety. The project activities will
be created accordingly. <br />
In brief, the project will give plenty of opportunities to pupils to share their interests and individual works in digital media and to comment on, to communicate, to have fun and to gain information positively. The project results will be shared with Europe-wide schools thanks to our web site, e-twinning, video-conferences and pupils' blogs to promote greater understanding. This will encourage teaching, training or other learning opportunities by the help of improved internet skills among the target groups. The local societies will also benefit from the project results by joining the online surveys, exhibitions, some activities and decision-making mechanism. As a result, pupils, teachers and community will gather useful internet knowledge which will be handy for life. Most importantly, we will naturally reduce paper works by performing most of the activities online.<br />

After a hard two year preparation and second application with corrected and changed parts at my new school, Hanım Ömer Çağıran Lower Sec. School, our project is approved. We get the grant from European National Agencies in order to implement our scheduled project activities. Because I believe the results will be wide and effective, I have been working on the preparation of the project, "My Digital Friends" for a long time. In my new school, we have a very active team work and our head of the school, Mr. Batmaz, is also helpful in every part of it. I am sure we will succeed most of our targets and by the help of the project, some students and teachers will be able to see different countries and they will have European peers with whom they can share. Students, teachers and the community will gather useful information for their life. Thanks to my friends, especially Mrs. Ünal, Mrs. Nar and Mrs. Süoğlu for their great assistance. </div>

Nowadays, after Gangnam Style, there is a wind of Harlem Shake. People mostly don't understand the real effect of the music and its strange and unnecessary looking dance. If we detailly analyze the starting point and the developing part of the dance, we can make healthy inferences about it. There is a person wearing a strange clothe and a halmet or a cone on his head. He starts dancing alone but the other people around acts as if he is not there. They go on working, studying or doing their routines. Suddenly, with the change of music, everybody starts dancing wearing strange clothes and doing different moves and actions. <span class="hps">There is of course</span> <span class="hps">a philosophical</span> <span class="hps">explanation of</span> <span class="hps">this situation</span>. The guy dancing alone represents the inner world of people which is completely mad; opposite of social behavior. People watching the first part with the solo dancer become confused since the guy doesn't behave normal. Then they become a part of the dance by the second part and they show their inner world with all its nakedness. Thus, <span class="hps">Harlem</span> <span class="hps">Shake</span> <span class="hps">attracts the attention of</span> <span class="hps">most people</span> no matter they like or hate it. <br /><div class="blogger-post-footer">Education, Future, Pazarköy, USA, Student, School, Turkey, University, college,</div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17965591173480500274noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-77232608596278792.post-38683015008632166232013-04-09T02:24:00.001-07:002013-04-09T03:28:55.632-07:00TEACHERS AS SCAPEGOATS WHEN FAILURE IN EDUCATION<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gqfaRfrOEC0/UWPsbuMU3HI/AAAAAAAACBI/VMXIWX72olU/s1600/scapegoats.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"></a><br /></div>
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gqfaRfrOEC0/UWPsbuMU3HI/AAAAAAAACBI/VMXIWX72olU/s1600/scapegoats.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="168" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gqfaRfrOEC0/UWPsbuMU3HI/AAAAAAAACBI/VMXIWX72olU/s200/scapegoats.png" width="200" /></a>Education is a tripod with school, student and parent. If the situation of one's absence, education becomes meaningless since the tripod lose the ability of standing. In Turkey, especially during the last decade, teachers have been continiously kept under pressure, checked and complained about by the school administrations, parents and communities' gossip mechanism. There are request boxes for the students in order to watch and learn about their requests and complains about their teachers but sometimes some students may write defamations just because they don't like the teachers or they are away from the lessons and rules. <br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The condition mentioned above, effects the teachers' productivity negatively. Mostly teachers lose their aspiration on teaching and using fruitful approaches and they become unwilling and frustrated educators which is not preferable in a healthy education. In adition, even if teachers apply very useful tecniques and approaches, they may decide to change their methods of teaching. This most probably effect the students who are really aware of and interested in the subjects.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6h7u-FeSHtI/UWPsWOQ4tJI/AAAAAAAACBA/VRj5roZ9HLk/s1600/frustrated_teacher_1379554c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="125" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6h7u-FeSHtI/UWPsWOQ4tJI/AAAAAAAACBA/VRj5roZ9HLk/s200/frustrated_teacher_1379554c.jpg" width="200" /></a>Of course the critiques and complains are constructive if they are real but on the other hand, in the situation of false directions, they are so harmful and destructive for the mental and social position of teachers. If there is failure in reaching the goals and targets, teachers are the direct collocuters and responsible individuals; not students or parents. That's, it is a hard job to teach and pay attention at the same time. Theachers are the scapegoats.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
There was a survey which I broadcasted last month about free clothing at schools. I applied it for my students at the age of 12. By the help of the results, I can say that they agree on school uniforms with the percentage of 54. Only % 33 want to come to school freely. % 12 have no idea or they don't care. As National Education Ministry of Turkey declared last year, the request of school uniforms at schools would be removed. However they have changed their mind. I think the surveys among the students and families are top efficient for their change. I applied a very simple questionnaire to see the reality. I am sure the Ministry applied very detailed and professional surveys, meetings, researches and consultations to understand the importance of the real needs of the students. In my opinion, we haven't any problems with clothing at schools. The real issue should be the techniques, approaches and curriculum and we should focus on these. Actually, we have experienced many many times the deadlock whenever we deal with people's clothes.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
For me, the most important thing in an effective and productive educational environment is discipline. A sweet-hard discipline provides a well built educational system. Pupils should own self-discipline and regularity in addition to self-confidence. The uniform gives the sense of discipline and belonging. </div>

Sometimes group leaders consider the applicants social status. Even if you are

Even today we have talked about our students' bad behaviours in and out classroom and we have made some decision to overcome these issues. Students have been acting more disrespectively to their instructors and parents than the last decades. This situation results in lack of academic education environment. If we want to deal with the issue, the first thing we have to do is to form a road map which includes a variety of approaching methods. I will try to offer some that I think it works when applied efficiently at school and at home. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
First I want to indicate the reasons for the behavioral problems then I will offer you some approaches in order to defeat or at least decrease the level. </div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gJCOyLw1E4E/UTTt0T2gI3I/AAAAAAAAB_Q/XWzjEjLkSbk/s1600/tantrum%5B1%5D.gif" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" jsa="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gJCOyLw1E4E/UTTt0T2gI3I/AAAAAAAAB_Q/XWzjEjLkSbk/s200/tantrum%5B1%5D.gif" width="158" /></a>If we number them, we can put continious technological improvements as the main guilty. I will tell you about other issues in my future posts. Actually, technology is for people's comfort but when used improperly, it becomes an evil ready to terminate our social life as much as inner world. Teenagers and adults have been using internet and social media in most of their times. They share, express themselves and even have fun online. Cellphones, Iphones and others are their new and close friends. As they are very young, they aren't experienced and equipped with sufficient knowledge about the real life surprises. They think that online life is different from real life. That is normally so but when you start living online, you lose your values about real social life since you spend most of your times with your virtual friends instead of real ones around. Teens act quite free and they gather false information; that's why they become overloaded with useless, meaningless, impolite and rubbish ingredients. When they are offline, they go on behaving the same as online. The problem arupts then.</div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;">
APPROACH: </div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
* Parents education on responsibility, leadership, selectivity and security online by holding meetings and some photocopies</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
* Students education on responsibility, selectivity and security during online by meetings and even online activities.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
* Citizenship and education of values. </div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4VABZD_oUTqThETPIHohggSldT9QrUj0bcpz_UAXpRVggFmv-4a_VbVd7NU5Je4mbCdH1UVoqWefdDY1bB1HtRT5e-89GKGWJ7kKb5I-MvjVw73-xaHtbUQm-PEi2l6TsoA4DYZjJJDko/s1600/frustratedgirl1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4VABZD_oUTqThETPIHohggSldT9QrUj0bcpz_UAXpRVggFmv-4a_VbVd7NU5Je4mbCdH1UVoqWefdDY1bB1HtRT5e-89GKGWJ7kKb5I-MvjVw73-xaHtbUQm-PEi2l6TsoA4DYZjJJDko/s200/frustratedgirl1.jpg" height="172" jsa="true" width="200" /></a>In Turkey, English has been taught as a foreign language since the beginning of Turkish Republic. In spide of this long teaching period, Turkish students have difficulty in learning English Language at school. They can not understand while listening to someone; they can not speak in target language fluently and; they can not write even a sentence even after a long learning period. What is the real problem they face while learning English?</div>
<div style="border: currentColor; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border: currentColor; text-align: justify;">
In deed students learn the grammar in the lessons but they can’t get the knowledge in the long run. This may be because of the method we run at schools. Especially students in public schools can do better in grammar than the private ones. Hovever they can not produce anything in the target language. There are plenty of reasons we can number on why they have self expression difficulties. As I mentioned above, the methods applied in the carricula in public schools may not meet the students’ needs in real World. That is, we should design the carricula and the teaching methods globally with less grammar subjects and more productive activities. Moreover because English is a Western language, the grammar is opposite of Turkish grammar. This may also lead difficulty.</div>
<div style="border: currentColor; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border: currentColor; text-align: justify;">
Another considerable reason in learning difficulties may be the students’ neglect on the culture of the target language. Since cultural contents are very important things in learning a foreign language efficiently and permanently, one should search, apply an even live exactly the culture of the target language. Students can do these in a variety of ways like listening to traditional songs, preparing Christmas cards, celebrating national or religious festivals, reading about culture and history, etc. </div>
<div style="border: currentColor; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border: currentColor; text-align: justify;">
We can handle the lack of practising the sentence patterns with our partners as the last statement . Students don’t usually notice the importance of practising the language learnt so far. They think that the data they received will be stored in their brain for a long time. Whereas practicing the information obtained from the language lessons in a way is the only way to learn the target language literally and permanently. </div>
<div style="border: currentColor; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border: currentColor; text-align: justify;">
All these mentioned facts prove the importance of a new point of view and an effective teaching method at public schools including the culture, life styles and more interactive practices.</div>
<div style="border: currentColor; text-align: justify;">

There may be some people who thinks that talking about this subject is nonsense since there are more important questions around. Nevertheless, if one thinks twice, he/she can find it very prior to mind at least people's point of views. At the first look, it may be a very simple issue what pupils wear at schools. On the other hand, this is really important in terms of teachers and students. In this point, people think completely different as if they are divided into two parts with a knife. One group say that clothing style helps children express their identity and find a place in a group in the society. Another group advocate the idea that uniform is a must at schools since it is the real instrument which supply students with a sense of belonging and discipline.</div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;">
I would like to express my idea about the question of clothing but I have to wait for the results of my survey about. Yes there is a survey regarding to this subject and please answer that simple question. </div>

Bullying is a question in educational system in general. People are bullying others just because they are facing bullying in their lifes out of the school. They may have problems like coming from divorced families, being abused someway, being subjected to violence, injustice and discrimination or living in socio-economic imbalances. However school and the teachers are there to build an ideal society. As a teacher I can say it is not that easy but it is our job to do it so. If we are in difficulty in aligning the pupils, we must give it up. There are lots of candidates who are so eager to work as teachers outside. I know that the system doesn't let teachers intervene in the same way as pupils behave. So it is a hard job. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNj8Ah_U9kImdghG8eWKGXaej5Rs1xW_V4f-YDeSgu3JYDmBVIiuZwlupvaeXHt8fsWkwRYlFoVSpnfnyhyQRS66AY5nMOHguvz2vmxShBbMJd5kVU436PlsQ7_yHco23VwgSOtZ0B13Oq/s1600/Resim4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a>Whatever you say, child is a child. You can be a good teacher only if you set up emphaty with children. I don't remember a day I give up. <strong><a href="http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=98f_1359463683#comment_page=3" target="_blank">The video</a></strong> you will watch is annoying and disturbing but it is also a good lesson for teachers who have difficulty in ensuring class domination.

Although I send all our partners an invitation for the meeting, except Eve Vunk from Estonia, no others could participate because they couldn't get grant from their National Agencies. That's why, we have conducted the meetings of the project with our Estonian partner. We have asked for our partners' ideas on developing the project application via email. We have had a busy week full of brain storming. Our councelor, Mrs. Azime Ünal; ICT teacher, Mrs. Melike Nar; English Teacher, Esra Süoğlu and our officer, Mr. Adnan Öztürk were very helpful during the meeting. Our manager Mr. Osman Nuri Batmaz was there whenever we need. He did his best to make the project application successful. Mrs. Eve Vunk was prepared and equipped with full of formative ideas. We couldn't manage the whole program because of the bad weather condition during the week but it was a victorious meeting since we filled in the common areas of the application form with very quality content. </div>

We are six different schools from Turkey, England, Estonia, Romania, Poland and Italy. Our project is about "Internet". We will mainly focus on improving internet skills by concentrating on responsibility, selectivity and security. The project activities will be created accordingly.</div>

In brief, the project activities will supply pupils with plenty of opportunities to share their interests and individual works in digital media and to comment on, to communicate, to have fun and to gain information positively in a secure international network. </div>

We had a 5-day trip to Montem Primary School in Windsor, England. We went there two people with Mr. Osman Nuri batmaz, Head of the School. We stayed in Travelodge Hotel. The hotel was just average. The breakfast was awful and the rooms were just simple designed. We paid 49 pounds a night which is too much for a hotel like this. On the other hand, our partner teachers were so kind and helpful. We experienced some traditional English food and drinks. The meeting was very fruitful. There were two more teachers from different schools. One was from England and another one was from Germany. We have designed the application form for our Comenius Project which is about caring our environment in different ways. The project title is "Together for Europe- Saving the Environment" aiming to teach pupils about their own and each other's natural environments and how they have the tools to save and protect them. We are seven partners from six different countries. Two schools are from England and others are Turkey, Poland, Greece, Czech Republic and Germany. We have made the scheduled meetings in Bungalow which is designed as a house with a kithcen and bathroom in the school. We enjoyed the school environment. It was cold and the hotel was expensive but we liked it very much. We visited London last day. </div>

We have had a video conference between England, India, China, Ireland and Hong Kong last month aiming to illustrate the ways of saving our environment mainly. It took two hours full of enjoyment and practice for my students. At the end, I have witnessed how my pupils became more confident. It was a very important experience for them since it was the first time they met different peers from all over the World. They asked their questions and answered the ones asked by their peers from other countries. They shared their ideas for a better future. These type of international connections will go on since they are very effective way of teaching internationalism. We have connected to the schools by flash-meeting which also allows recording the meeting and broadcasting for future purposes.</div>

Fortunately, we have begun working on English Club activities which I have scheduled carefully in order to increase the awareness and interest of the students towards English Language. There are three groups and they each come one day of the week. The Club is on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Students choose the suitable day for them and follow the syllabus. There are a lot of interesting subjects we will handle this year. Shotting a movie, writing sceneries, short plays and poetry, reading stories and poetry, declamation contest, song and karaoke contests and so on. All the joint students are enjoying the club activities and as I have observed, students are really happy during the Club hour. They enjoy the things they do and share. I am also doing this work voluntarily. My only aim is to teach the students how to speak properly in English Language.</div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> As Hanım Ömer Çağıran Primary and Middle Schools, we are planning to run two projects which were decided last year and worked on before. One is for the Primary School which is about EcoSchool and it includes activities about environment and recycling in it. The second one is for MiddleSchool and it is on Positive Digital Citizenship including ICT activities mostly. In November, there will be a preparatory visit in England and me and mr. Batmaz, the Head of the School, are going to join the meeting and give the final shape to the projects. We have some European partners such as England, Poland, Romania, Estonia, Czech Republic, Greece, Germany, Sweden and France. We believe that we will manage all these work and supply our students with a high quality international education by the help of our partner schools and our experienced and equipped colleagues in our both school (Primary and Middle). </span></div>
