What Will Education Look Like in 2 or 5 or 10 years?

Thomas Frey, founder of the DaVinci Institute in Colorado, has a strong vision of the future in education. It does not resemble what we see today.

The Future

The Change Is Coming
Thomas Frey, founder of the DaVinci Institute, has a vision. He sees a radical shift beginning in the world of education within two years--which would be 2009. While many are debating vouchers, No Child Left Behind, teacher shortages, grading systems, teacher certification, parental involvement, truancy and dropouts, Frey is thinking out of the box..."Star Trek type" out of the box. Frey believes that in two years private funding will cause disruptive education systems to emerge. And, in 5 years, there will be dramatic changes...dramatic.

Courseware-Builder
This is a $100 word that can be confusing. What is it? Frey believes that technology will drive the future and that items like iTunes and Amazon will determine the vehicle for education. Courseware-Builder will be the software that makes education possible on any conceivable topic. Frey believes that many companies will compete for the market but that one will come out the winner. Then, the consumer will select an education that suits personal needs.
Blast From The Past
Mathematics is a critical component in a successful society. Greek civilization was famous for math--Archimedes, Pythagoras, Euclid, Hipparchus, Posidonius and Ptolemy all furthered math concepts. When the Romans became the dominant force on earth, they did not focus on mathematics. The Romans had the Roman numerals system which made little sense. GÖNÜL KÖPRÜSÜ - Heart Bridge

This is a project to improve the relations between students from West to East of Turkey. This project has been planned by the Turkish National Education Ministry to make the students as future governers, aware of others from other parts of the country, share experiences and work together for the future of the country. In the process of the project thousands of students are visiting each other's city and meeting their peers in other regions. In this way, they get to know each other's aspects and problems and try to find solutions together. So It is not necessary to count the advantages of this kind of project. The 10-Day International Summer Camp curriculum is similar to the basic 6-Day Space Camp, but features more outdoor recreational activities and local excursions. The 10-Day International Summer Camp program is taught in English for native and non-native speaking participants;

*Design a Mars colony and present your team’s ideas to other teams
*Build a hot-air balloon
*Construct and launch a one-stage model rocket
*Conduct chemical experiments in our laboratory
*Gaze at Moon’s craters where Apollo modules landed, Jupiter`s stripes, Saturn`s rings, and even double stars in the constellations through a 10-inch telescope in our rooftop observatory.
*Learn how to locate the constellations and their stars in our planetarium
*Try on a astronaut space suit
*Develop problem solving, time management and teamwork skills
*Understand hydroponics and take home your own plant
*Learn about the history of space exploration

*Engage in sports activities like football, basketball and water polo
*Take Star Treks (local excursions) to Izmir city, Sirince village and Ephesus

SPACE SHUTTLE MISSION
*During our simulated space shuttle missions, campers are assigned special positions such as payload specialist on the space shuttle Discovery and flight director in mission control.
*Each crew member and mission control specialist is integral to the success of the mission. If a team member neglects a vital duty or assignment, it may have an adverse effect on the outcome of the flight.
*Participants learn how to effectively communicate with one another, solve problems together, and work as a team to ensure overall success of the mission
